What is email hosting?
Email hosting allows you to send and receive mail from your own professional-looking custom domain name, using a dedicated business email hosting service. This differs from free, generic services such as Gmail and Hotmail, which are usually supported by advertising and offer less control.
Email hosting at LCN is far more flexible than the free alternatives you’ll find online. Our email hosting packages are designed to grow with your business, and allow you to increase your mailbox size at any time.

What’s the difference between IMAP and POP?
IMAP email is a type of email service which keeps emails stored on the server (our end). This allows you to synchronise email across several different devices, and you’ll always be able to access all of your emails. IMAP is what we use for our email hosting.
POP works a little differently: it downloads the emails onto your device and then, in most cases, removes them from the server. This means that once you’ve downloaded an email on one device you can’t get the same email on another device as it has been deleted from the server. This is why IMAP is the preferred way of getting mail across desktop, tablet and smartphones.

What is webmail?
Webmail is a way of accessing your email via a web browser like Chrome or Safari. All you need to do is login at webmail.lcn.com, pop in your email address and password, and you can send and receive emails to your hearts content. It looks like this…

Do I need a domain name?
Yes, you’ll need a domain name to go with your email hosting. This is one of the real benefits of having a custom email address – it means you no longer need to rely on third party providers with unprofessional looking email addresses like @hotmail.com or @gmail.com.
So fancy a domain of your own? You’re in luck – buying a domain name is a piece of cake. In fact we look after over 365,000 domain names for our happy customers.

What if I need more space?
We’re confident our email hosting packages offer plenty of space for most regular email users. However, should you often receive emails with large attachments and you prefer to keep them stored on our email servers, over time you may find you’ll need more space. Should that ever happen, you can easily increase your mailbox size or add more users etc. Our email hosting plans grow with you – whenever you need it.

How many domains can I host on these packages?
All of our email hosting packages come packed with all the features you’ll need for a single domain. If you require email hosting for more than one domain, you’ll need separate email hosting packages for each.
Is this service suitable for email marketing?
No, our business email hosting services are designed for normal, day-to-day use by any business. We expect customers to be pretty busy with emails, sending out dozens or even hundreds via your domain a day. However, our hosting is not suitable for email marketing.
We recommend you use a third-party specialist email marketing solution which is designed to send out thousands of emails to large mailing lists.
Can I check my emails with Microsoft Outlook?
Absolutely! You can check your email with any mail client that allows you to connect to an IMAP or POP3 mail server.
