How to use the text editor in InstantSite.
Please note: This guide is for legacy InstantSite pruchsed before the 18th August 2020. If you have our new InstantSite please see guides specific for our new builder found here.
The InstantSite text editor allows you to add rich text elements to your website. To start using the text editor, simply login to the InstantSite editor click the text you want to edit and the text editor will appear.

Format
The format option is used to automatically format your text to a pre-defined layout. When clicking on the Format icon a drop down menu will appear containing the following options:
- Normal text
- Quote
- Code
- Heading1
- Heading2
- Heading3
- Heading4
- Heading5
These work just like the formatting options in popular text editors such as Microsoft Word. The format option allows you to quickly and easily manage the way your websites headers, titles and text appears.
Bold
Bold test is often used to emphasise a word in a sentence You get this by hovering over the text you want to make bold and click the Bold icon
Italics
Italics are used to more subtly emphasise words in a sentence. To make your text appear in italics, hover over the text and click the Italics icon
Underline
The underline option in the text editor allows you to underline your text elements. Hover over the text you want to underline and click the Underline icon to achieve the effect.
Align
The Align option is used to align text. Text can be aligned Left, Right, Centre or Justify. Hover over the text you want to align and click the Align icon
Link
Links or hyperlinks are used to link to other relevant pages on your website, or to link to another website. The Link option is used to add a link to a word or sentence.
Add an External link:
- Select the text you would like to link.
- Click the Link icon
- Click Insert link.
- To add a link to an external site, click External.
- Enter the URL of the page you would like the link to link to.
- Tick if you want to Open link in new tab.
- Click Insert.
Add an Internal link:
- Select the text you would like to link.
- Click the Link icon
- Click Insert link.
- To add a link to an external site, click Internal.
- Select the page you would like to link to from the Page drop down.
- Tick if you want to Open link in new tab.
- Click Insert.
Add a Document link:
- Click the Link icon
- Click Insert link.
- To add a link to a document link, click Document.
- Enter the text that you want to be displayed for your document link into the Text field.
- Click Select File
- Select an existing document from the document library, or select Upload Document to upload a file from your computer to the document library. Then click Confirm after selecting the document that you want to link to.
- Click Insert.
Font Size
The Font Size option is used to change font sizes of different text elements. Simply click the Font Size icon and select the font size you’d like from the drop down menu.
Font Family
The Font Family option is used to change your font type. Simply click the Font Family icon and select the font of your choice from the drop down.
Font Colour
Changing the colour of your InstantSite font couldn’t be easier! Simply select the text you want to change, click the Font Colour icon and select the colour you’d like to use. Always make sure your selected font colour is easily distinguished from your site background colour.
Lines
A line is a great tool to separate a body of text and make your web page more readable. The line option in InstantSite allows you to add a horizontal line across the entire text element. To add a line, simply place the cursor just before where you’d like the line and click the Line icon
Lists
Whether listing products or services, making a step by step guide or organisation your content, a list can be a useful addition to your site. InstantSite provides two types of lists;
Ordered lists
Unordered lists
Ordered List:
By default ordered lists will be shown in numeric categories, for example: 1, 2, 3,. Adding an ordered list to InstantSite is simple.
- Hover over the text you would like to turn into a list.
- Click the Lists icon
- Select Ordered List.
Please note: The text will automatically be added to a list that breaks to a new number on each new line.
- If you would like to Indent or Outdent your list, simply click the Lists icon and select either Outdent or Indent.
Unordered List:
By default, unordered lists will be shown with bullet points. Adding an unordered list to InstantSite is simple.
- Hover over the text you would like to list.
- Click the Lists icon
- Select Unordered List.
- If you would like to Indent or Outdent your list, simply click the Lists icon and select either Outdent or Indent.
Tables
To add a Table to your InstantSite, simply click where you would like your table, click the Table icon and select Insert table. By default, a table with 3 columns and 2 rows will be added. Columns, rows, and header rows can all be added and removed from your table by following the instructions below:
Adding and removing rows
To add a new row to your table:
- Click on your table
- Click the Table icon
- Select Insert row above or Insert row below, depending on where you want your new row.
To remove a row from your table:
- Click on the row you’d like to remove from your table
- Click the Table icon
- Select Delete row.
Adding and removing columns
To add a new column to your table:
- Click on your table
- Click the Table icon
- Select Insert column left or Insert column right, depending on where you want your new row.
To remove a column from your table:
- Click on the column you’d like to remove from your table
- Click the Table icon
- Select Delete column.
Adding and removing header rows
A header row is a title section for your table. By default, it will cover the entire width of your table and will be styled with a dark grey background. To add a header to your table;
- Click on your table
- Click the Table icon
- Select Add head.
To remove a header from your table:
- Click on your table
- Click the Table icon
- Select Delete head.
Icons
InstantSite provides two ways to add icons; either via the Icon element, or via the Icons option in the text editor. To add Icons using the text editor:
- Click where you’d like to add your icon.
- Click the Icons icon
- Either scroll through the list of options or search for your icon in the Search for icons field.
- Click the icon you would like to add.
- Click Insert.
