How to update your Database

This guide will cover how you can update your database for customers using LCN Web Hosting or WordPress Hosting.

How to change your Default charset

You may find that you need a specific charset for your database. You would have selected this when you set up your Database but can be changed directly from your LCN account. To do this you will need to…

  1. First Log in to you LCN account and head to your Control Panel 
  1. Next click on the Domain which has the Database you would like to update. 
  1. Then click Hosting Settings followed by MySQL 
  1. Next click on the Database name you would like to update. 
  1. From the box for Default charset you can now choose a new charset from the drop down provided. 
  1. Once you are happy with your choice click Save 

That’s it! You have now updated your Default charset.

How to update your Database user password

Your users will have a password to access your database which you would have created when you made your database, users may be tied to your website so be aware you may need to update your websites configuration file after you change the password. To reset your Database user password you will need to…

  1. Log in to you LCN account and move to your Control Panel 
  1. Now cick on the Domain which has the Database you would like to update. 
  1. Then click Hosting Settings followed by MySQL 
  1. Click on the Username you would like to update located under Database users 
  1. In the New password box enter your desired password and Confirm password in the second box. 

Please note: Make sure your chosen password is secure it is recommended to be 5 to 8 characters long and include at least 3 of the following: Lower case letter, upper case letter, number, special character. For a guide on making a secure password click here.

  1. Scroll down and click Save

That’s it! You have now updated your Database user password.

How to change your Database user privileges

If you need to update a database users’ permissions to allow them more less privileges, you can do this from your LCN account as well. You will find these settings under the Database user page.

You will find a full list of options and you can choose which you would like for this specific user.

To do this you will need to…

  1. Log in to you LCN account and move to your Control Panel 
  1. Then click on the Domain which has the Database you would like to update. 
  1. Next click Hosting Settings followed by MySQL 
  1. Click on the Username you would like to update located under Database users 
  1. Underneath your password reset options you will find a list of privileges. Tick and untick these as you require. To find out more about each privilege float your mouse over the i provided. 
  1. When you are happy with your changes click Save

That’s it! You have now updated your Database user privileges.
