SEO Basics to Increase Visits

In this article, we will outline some essential SEO tips to help increase traffic to your website:

Keep Your Website Content Relevant and Up to Date

The most important factor for SEO is the content of your site. Ensure your content is valuable to your visitors and use relevant keywords in your page or article titles. For example, if you sell shoes and have a special promotion, here are three title options:

  • Title 1: Bid of the Week– While this may attract visitors searching for “bid” or “week,” it doesn’t mention shoes, so it may bring in visitors who aren’t interested in your products.
  • Title 2: Sports Shoes Sale – This title targets users looking for shoes, which makes it more relevant to your audience.
  • Title 3: Sports Shoes Sale in London – This title narrows the focus to people specifically looking for shoes in London, making it even more targeted.

Use Your Own Domain Name

Search engines value the relevance between a website’s content and its domain name. If you’ve built a reputable brand, include it in your domain name. If you don’t yet have a brand name, consider a domain name that describes your business or industry (e.g., ShoesLondon.com or LondonBoots.com).

Name Your Images

Search engines can’t “see” images, so it’s essential to include descriptive filenames for your images. This helps search engines understand what the image is about and can help your site appear in image searches.

After setting up relevant content and registering a domain, it’s important to verify your site with Google to start the “indexing” process. Google Search Console helps you monitor and optimize your site’s performance in search results. Google also offers free courses on SEO through its Google Digital Garage.

Make Use of Social Media

Stay connected with your visitors, customers, and partners through social media. For example, you can create a Facebook page for fans of your website. Once created, you can add a “Like” button to your site to allow visitors to follow and engage with your page. For more information, please consult Facebook’s support guides on this.

Optimise for Mobile Devices

With more users browsing the internet on smartphones, it’s crucial that your site looks good and functions properly on mobile. Our editor offers fully responsive designs, meaning your content automatically adapts to different screen sizes. However, we recommend checking the mobile appearance manually by resizing your browser window to simulate a phone view.

IMPORTANT:  Avoid fraudulent SEO practices, such as hidden text, links, or stolen content, as these can result in your site being ranked lower in search engine results or being removed from results altogether. For more guidance on this topic, you can consult the Google Search Essentials guidelines.
